The Russian Meat section provides analysis of the situation on the beef market. Against the background of positive developments in pig breeding, the cattle breeding sector is still depressed.

The World Meat section covers the situation on the EU beef market. A slight recovery in production in 2006 is expected thanks to Ireland and mainly thanks to the United Kingdom. The trend will not last however in 2007 when production is forecasted to be very similar to 2005. As a result, prices in 2006 and 2007 will be at high levels.

Sergiev Posad’ meat processing plant dates back to 1912, when monks established a monastic slaughterhouse at the Holy Trinity – St. Sergius Laura in order to feed workers engaged in construction at the monastery. In the mid-1950’s, the facility underwent reconstruction, was transformed into a full-fledged meat-processing plant, and industrial production of sausages was arranged with the help of technologists from the Mikoyan meat facility.
